P.C Cast explains the choice she made by using the word Vampyres instead of vampire stating that she liked the way her new word looked. She named the 16 year old protagonist in the House of Night series as Zoey Redbird as a marked by as a marked “fledgling” who moved to the “House of Night” where she is being transformed.
